Proposed City Charter

The City Charter was first established in 1915 and last amended in 1992.  The Citizen Charter Review Advisory Committee (CCRAC) was formed by way of Resolution No. 2020-10, adopted and amended on September 21, 2020.

The Charter for the City of Okeechobee, being a municipal corporation, is created pursuant to the Constitution of the State of Florida.  See Part I - Code of Ordinances, Chapter 1.  Part II - Chapter 2 describes Administration, Council, Departments, and responsibilities under the Administrative portion of our adopted Ordinances.

After review of the current City Charter, the Citizen Charter Review Advisory Committee determined what changes should be offered to the voters for consideration and presented its recommendations to the City Council, which will be finalized and adopted at the June 7, 2022 City Council meeting
