BUSINESS TAX RECEIPT

   Any person operating or planning top operate a business within the City of Okeechobee's required to

   obtain a Business Tax Receipt. This must be applied for and issued prior to opening for business.

   Any applications for a City business tax receipt may be obtained from the Finance Department,

   55 SE 3rd Avenue, Room 102 or you may print an application by clicking the link at the bottom

   of the page.

 

   All applications must be completed in their entirety and returned with the following information attached:

 

 

>   Copy of water/sewer service verification for the business location

 

>   Copy of  a garbage collection bill for business location.

 

>   Copy of either fictitious Name Registration or Corporation Papers. 

 

>   Copy of RENTAL or LEASE AGREEMENT or PROOF OF   OWNERSHIP. 

 

>   If applicable a copy of any State Licensing or Certification or a  Certificate  of

     Competency from Okeechobee County.

     (Please view the list of  businesses that require a state license.)

 

>   If your business location is located in the county and you are applying for a  

     MOBILE  Business Tax Receipt a copy of your County Business Tax Receipt is

     required.

 

 

PRINT A BUSINESS TAX RECEIPT REGISTRATION APPLICATION

 

When you return your completed application to  the  city you  will  need to attach a check

to cover the  registration  fee and applicable  inspection  fees for a  business located in the

city. If your business is located in the county and you wish to do business within the city then you will submit your completed application, all necessary documentation and a check for $10.00, this is for the registration fee.

 

Once your completed application is received and processed it will be distributed   to the following departments for review. Inspections of the premises will be done to verify that the proposed business meets all applicable code requirements. Should any of these departments have any issues with the proposed business or business location, these issues must be resolved prior to approval.

> Building Department (inspection fee applies)    

Please note that completion of the application for registration does not constitute   permission by the City of Okeechobee to engage in a business or occupation. If the   applicant elects to purchase or lease the property or invest money in the proposed   business prior to City approval, the applicant does so at their own risk.

 

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

It is the applicants' responsibility to notify the city of any changes in the business such as:

 

               Change in business name or ownership

     Change of business location

     Change in mailing address

     Change in nature of business

     Termination of business

  

Renewal notices are mailed at the beginning of July and are due before October 1 to

avoid penalties.

 

All Business tax receipts must be displayed in a prominent location.
